Calvin Wallace Woods, Jr., was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He is the fifth child of 13 born to Rev. Dr. Calvin Wallace Woods, Sr. and the late Lucille Grayson Woods. He was called at the age of 19 to preach God's Word. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama, a Master of Divinity Degree, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans. He married Constance Craig Woods on June 6, 1981. They have one daughter, Crystal Woods Thomas.

 Dr. Woods has been Pastor of the Greater Liberty Baptist Church since December 1981. As a servant-leader, he humbles himself by serving the brethren rather than sitting on a pedestal being served by others. He focuses his attention towards building up the Body of Christ through evangelism, missions, worship, leadership development, Christian Education, family ministries, and church administration.
